Prioritising Safety & Hygiene in the Food & Beverage Sector
At the core of many major food manufacturing companies is the safety and protection of their staff. With forklifts moving throughout these facilities, and machinery hard at work, without a comprehensive safety system implemented, the risk of an accident occurring is very high. While most food and beverage manufacturing facilities have onsite maintenance teams ready to make quick, cost-effective repairs, this is not a viable solution long-term. Companies in this industry need to be future-proofing themselves, to minimise downtime and maximise uptime.
Implementing your Traffic Management Plan
Having a traffic management plan (TMP) in place is an excellent tool to help guide decision making when it comes to safety on your site. It also helps you communicate how you are managing traffic risks in your workplace. But implementing them, and bringing them to life is another matter. Typically your traffic management plan will outline basic features such as line marking, barriers, exclusion zones etc. Companies like us, can be contracted to do these works.
But when it comes to real-life hazards that aren’t listed on the traffic management plan? It may be time to review your own facility’s safety systems. From there, you can work with our team to analyse various areas in your facility that may require additional traffic management solutions.
For example, one company we’ve recently worked with had a yellow painted line at the end of a raised area, that was particularly slippery when wet. While the yellow line was great for pointing out that the area was slippery, it did nothing to stop the area from being slippery. Our consultants designed a different finish to the area, that would have the water draining directly to the point drain, and change the profile to being a step down, rather than a curve down. This has greatly increased the safety in that area at the site.
